To Hit Longer Drives…Listen for the “Whoosh”

Hi. I’m Shane LeBaron with the Plane Truth Performance Center at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. We’re here today to talk to you about how to gain more distance, get more club head speed, and hit the ball longer.

To gain distance, we need to understand there are two points of energy in a golf club. We have club head energy and handle energy. For you to swing faster and make your club head move, we need to put all the energy of your golf swing into the club head.

So, if you can make some swings right about chest high or so, and feel the club head whistle around you and make a “whoosh.” We need to feel as if the club head is accelerating the golf swing. If you swing, and the club head gets very quiet, now we are stuck with handle energy. The club head’s not moving, it’s going slower.

Swing the club back and around, let the club head go around your body in a circle. Listen for the “whoosh” to get your club head speed moving faster. Creating more speed is going to give you longer drives and lower scores. I’m Shane LeBaron.
