Arizona Foothills Best of Our Valley: Most Challenging Course
The Gold Course at the Wigwam Golf Resort
We are proud to announce that The Gold Course at the Wigwam Golf Resort is the winner of the 2014 Arizona Foothills Best of Our Valley “Most Challenging Course”. This course was designed by master golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1964. This course rivals the famed South Course at Firestone Country Club. Covering more than 7,400 yards, this long and winding par-72 course challenges even the finest of golfers.
Among some of the course highlights are the long holes with mature trees lining the fairways on both sides. One of The Gold Course highlights is the 4th hole known as the “Firestone”. This long par-5 is a 645 yard hole that requires you to have strength and patience.
One of the Hardest Finishing Stretch
From the finishing holes 16th to 18th is one of the valley’s hardest finishing stretch in golf. The 16th hole is known as the “Turtle Point”. This par-3 174 yard hole is full of hazards to avoid. The 17th hole a 422 yard par-4 is known as the “Valderamma”. This is a long hole that requires a tough approach shot to a narrow green across a pond. Hitting a short approach shot can cost you a few strokes. The finishing 18th hole known as the “Crag Burn” is one of the toughest finishing holes in Arizona. This long par-4 is 440 yards with a water hazard running along the left side of the hole.
